CharmIn Privacy Policy

At CharmIn, caring for the information you share with us matters just as much as the stories we bring you. This page explains, in plain terms, what information we collect, how we collect it, and what we use it for. We operate in line with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information and related regulations, so please take a moment to review this before using the site.

Article 1What Counts as “Personal Information”

We use the term as defined under Japan’s privacy law: details such as your name, date of birth, address, phone number, or email address — anything that, alone or combined with other data, could identify you as an individual. This also covers any personal identification numbers you may share with us.

Article 2What We Collect, and How

CharmIn is free to read without creating an account, so we don’t go out of our way to ask for sensitive details like credit card numbers, bank information, or ID numbers. What we do collect generally falls into two categories.

What you share when reaching out to us

If you use our contact form, we may ask for your name and email address so we can reply. Anything you provide there is used only to respond to that specific message.

What gets recorded automatically as you browse

Browsing activity, IP addresses, Cookie identifiers, device details, and location data may be logged automatically while you use the site. We rely on this to understand how the site is used and to fine-tune the advertising shown to you.

Article 3How We Use It

Information we hold is used only for the following purposes.

• Confirming and replying to your inquiries.
• Understanding how the site is used, to keep improving our content.
• Showing relevant advertising through our partners, including Google AdSense and various affiliate providers.
• Preventing misuse or violations of our Terms of Use.
• Any purpose reasonably related to the above.

Article 4If Our Purposes Change

• Any change will stay within a scope reasonably connected to the original purpose.
• We’ll let you know through our usual channels, or post the update on this site.

Article 5Sharing with Third Parties

We won’t hand your information to outside parties in a way that breaks your trust. Outside of the situations below — and only where the law allows it — we won’t share personal information with a third party without your consent.

• When it’s needed to protect someone’s life, safety, or property, and there’s no time to obtain consent.
• When it’s specifically needed for public health reasons or child welfare, and consent is hard to obtain.
• When a government body needs cooperation to carry out a legally defined duty, and asking for consent first would get in the way of that.

About Our Advertising and Affiliate Partners

We work with outside advertising and affiliate services. These partners may use Cookie-based data gathered from this and other sites to show ads matched to your interests. None of this identifies you personally, and you’re free to turn off Cookies through your browser settings at any time.

Article 6Requesting to See What We Hold

If you’d like to know what personal information we hold about you, we’ll respond promptly. That said, we may withhold all or part of it — with an explanation — if any of the following apply.

• Disclosure could put someone’s life, safety, property, or other rights at risk.
• Disclosure could seriously interfere with how we run our business.
• Disclosure would otherwise break the law.

Note that things like browsing history, Cookie data, and server logs don’t count as personal information, so they fall outside this kind of request.

Article 7Fixing or Removing Your Information

• If something we hold about you is wrong, you can ask us to correct, add to, or delete it through our standard process.
• We’ll look into it within a reasonable time and make the change promptly if it’s warranted.

Article 8Asking Us to Stop Using Your Data

If you believe your information is being used beyond what we’ve described here, or was collected improperly, let us know and we’ll investigate right away.

Where the investigation shows action is needed, we’ll stop the use or delete the data without unnecessary delay.

Article 9Updates to This Policy

• We may revise this Policy from time to time as laws change or our operations evolve. Unless we say otherwise, updates take effect as soon as they’re posted here.
• Except where law or this Policy requires otherwise, we may make these changes without notifying you individually in advance.
